Ben Green is looking forward to showing the world that an “invisible disease” won’t stop him from achieving his sporting ambitions.
In 2018 he received a shock diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) – a disease that attacks the central nervous system.
On Sunday the 26-year-ols will attempt to break the Guinnes World Record for the fastest marathon for a male with multiple sclerosis at the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon.
He plans to finish the 42.195km run in two hours and 45 minutes and raise awareness of MS.
“There’s a lot of stigma around, when you tell someone you’ve got MS, people probably think they should be in a wheelchair” he said.
I’ve been really lucky that I haven’t been heavily impacted by it.”
Mr Green also plans to take part in this year’s Lumary City-Bay Fun Run on September 15. Tens of thousands of runners and walkers are expected to turn out for the 50th running of the beloved event, supported by the Sunday Mail. Participants can opt for the classic 12km, as well as 3km, 6km and half marathon distances, and raise fund for charity. All will earn a souvenir medal.
